Visiting the Glyptothek Museum in Munich, November 2006 and November 2007. Light meets stone, form and colour, antique sculpture meets modern camera. Art comes alive in the museum's natural light.

Lines, wires and cables and plugs for electricity and telephony live a life of secrecy. They communicate and help us to communicate with each other. At the same time, they testify to technical advancement and the DIY abilities of their owners.

The last photographs are from a recent visit to the north of Portugal. In the small towns there, wires and cables often interact with beautiful azulejos (= traditional tiles), with religious motifs or as street signs.

Leitungen und Anschlüsse führen ein Leben im Verborgenen, kommunizierenmiteinander und verhelfen Menschen zur Kommunikation. Zugleich gebensie Zeugnis ab von der technischen Entwicklung und den handwerklichenFähigkeiten ihrer Besitzer. Die letzten Aufnahmen stammen aus Nordportugal, wo ich die Unterhaltungen zwischen Strom- und Telefonleitungen, Keramik-Straßenschildern und Fliesen (Azulejos) mit Heiligenmotiven belauschte.

North Portugal seems to be largely undiscovered by tourists. Far from the popular Algarve coast, it boasts beautiful hills and mountains (Serra d'Estrela), spectacular river banks (the Portwine region along the Douro river), ancient villages and towns, beautiful cathedrals (in Guarda, for instance), much granite and a friendly population.

These photographs were made in May 2007 when we stayed in the village of Sernancelhe and made trips to Penedono with its fortress ruins, the market town Trancoso and the Douro region.

Sailing Lake Ijssel, NL

Travelling on the boat Emma built in 1889 across the Ijsselmeer (also called Lake Ijssel or Lake Yssel) in the north of the Netherlands. I tried to captured wind, water and details of the beautiful vintage boat.
